What Came First, Aunt Ruth or the Egg on Her Head?
61Upcoming Book on the Ruthless Parts of English
Rap! Rap! Rap!
The rapping (on my chamber door) startled me out of deep concentration. I had been penning the final touches on the manuscript of my upcoming book, "I Laid an Egg on Aunt Ruth's Head," and was deep in thought.
"Hello? Who is it?" I shouted, not leaving my escritoire.
"Nevermore!" shouted the voice on the other side.
"Go away, silly raven," I laughed.
"What about great aunts?" asked the visitor.
"Great aunts can enter," I responded.
The door opened and in came a very wet Aunt Ruth.
"Oh, is it raining outside?"
"No, I always love running through lawn sprinklers while fully clothed," retorted Aunt Ruth. "What are you working on, nefarious nephew?"
"Oh, I'm in the final editing stages of the book."
"Oh joy."
"You don't sound so thrilled. How come?"
"How come? You're publishing a book named I Laid an Egg on Aunt Ruth's Head, and you expect me to be thrilled?"
"You'll be famous, Aunt Ruth."
"So was Calamity Jane," sighed Aunt Ruth.
"Oh Aunt Ruth, you worry too much. I have so many positive things to say about you and about how we figure out English grammar stuff together. Besides, it's a chance to talk about your exploits as police officer, aerobics instructor, kung fu master, and your time machine."
"Hey it almost sounds fun!"
"It is fun, Aunt Ruth. I use some of the stories that I've published on Triond and Associated Content in the past, plus a whole bunch of new stories. I'm publishing it through Author House and it'll be out sometime this fall."
"Let me know when it's ready!"
"Oh I will, I will."
"Okay, nauseating nephew. I'm tired. Time for a nap."
"Say good night, Aunt Ruth."
"Good night, Aunt Ruth!"
